A little of history…

Guernet Company was set up in November 1910 by Jean Guernet. Passionate for cars and motorcycles, the activity was focused on equipment’s sale for cars and particularly for electrical equipments. In those days, the company was settled Rue du Château, in Paris.

ArchivesThen, after the 1ST World War, the space ran out and following to manufacturing development concerning electrical engines, it was decided to move on premises located in the heart of cars manufacture place, Nanterre.

Very quickly, Mr Jean Guernet invented and manufactured a compact and robust  battery charger, nonexistent on the market in those days. This innovation helped the Company to grow up. There was a total of 100 employees. Jean Guernet knew the fame.

Jean Guernet, innovator, inventor, but also visionary immediately thought of extending manufactures, convinced that his domination in the battery charger world could be ephemeral. He moved towards compressed air, source of energy for the future in his opinion. In deed, air gained the upper hand in pneumatic world and the uncomfortable and little resistant full tires disappeared. We were in the late 20’s.

The first range runs from the inflator to 200 Lt compressor. The range widened very quickly.

The 2nd World War occurred and stopped compressors development.

After the war, request started again and compressors began to overtake battery charger manufacture. The range became larger thanks to the first compressors with belt transmission. A new range saw the light for powers up to 7.5 cv.

Michel Guernet resumed control of the company in 1954. In those days, the family company was in transition. The Battery charger JO had to be stopped, supplanted by the arrival of static chargers, unreliable, powerless, but much cheaper to manufacture. Moreover, the setting up in the west of Paris became a disadvantage.

The factory moved to Villeneuve / Yonne, in bigger premises.

Guernet Company enjoyed a new boom up to 1982. Guernet Company machined, manufactured and assembled more than 10 000 compressors per year.

Known and recognized for the reliability of its equipment, the brand knew a decline because of the first Italian manufactures, less robust but much cheaper. The decade in the late 80’s was the most difficult to go through.

At the beginning of the 90’s, Mr Hervé Guernet resumed control of the company and decided to focus on several specialisations; thermal compressors market but also the manufacture of compressors made to measure or specifics, in order to give satisfaction to costumers who wish specificities, unobtainable on the market.

Guernet Company wants to remain an expert, to get off the beaten track of prices. Guernet Company designs and  develops each weeks new machines to meet very different markets. Guernet Company offers nowadays one of the widest range of the market, in particular in thermal compact compressors field.
